Setup guide

VLC Media Player is free to download. Resolution depends on the screen: HD is plenty on a phone or laptop, and 4K is worth it only on a 4K monitor or TV. Choose a plan, message us on WhatsApp, and expect your login details in about a minute.

Before you start

  • Your M3U playlist link
  • Permission to open apps from identified developers, if the app comes from its own site
  • Plan on about 10 Mbps for each HD stream and 25 Mbps for each 4K stream

The setup, in order

  • Pick a plan length, send the order on WhatsApp, and keep the reply open: it holds the server URL, username and password.
  • Get VLC Media Player from the Mac App Store or the developer's own site; if it arrives as a download, drag it into Applications.
  • Use VLC's network stream option (Media > Open Network Stream on Windows, File > Open Network on a Mac, the Network tab on phones) and paste the M3U link.
  • Wait for the first load to finish, open a channel to test it, and star the ones you watch most.

After you sign in

VLC lists the playlist in order. There is no guide and no category view, so use the search box in the playlist panel to find a channel.

Troubleshooting

  • VLC says it cannot open the stream: paste the M3U link again without spaces at either end.
  • Guide off by an hour or more: check the MacBook's time zone first, then the EPG offset in VLC Media Player.
  • VLC Media Player closes on its own: clear its cache, restart the MacBook, and reinstall if it keeps happening.
  • Buffering on sports only: run a speed test on the MacBook. Below about 25 Mbps, use the HD version of the channel.

Settings that help on the MacBook

  • Connect to a TV over HDMI for a bigger picture with the same app.
  • Turn on hardware acceleration in the player settings.
  • Use Ethernet for 4K on a desktop or docked laptop.
  • Network caching: raise the value (in milliseconds) in the advanced preferences if streams stutter.
