The setup, in order

  • Pick a plan length, send the order on WhatsApp, and keep the reply open: it holds the server URL, username and password.
  • Get VLC Media Player from the Mac App Store or the developer's own site; if it arrives as a download, drag it into Applications.
  • Use VLC's network stream option (Media > Open Network Stream on Windows, File > Open Network on a Mac, the Network tab on phones) and paste the M3U link.
  • Give the first sync a couple of minutes, then hide the groups you never use and favorite the rest.

  • Use Ethernet for 4K on a desktop or docked laptop.
  • Keep VLC installed as a backup player for testing the stream.
  • Connect to a TV over HDMI for a bigger picture with the same app.

The first time you open it

VLC lists the playlist in order. There is no guide and no category view, so use the search box in the playlist panel to find a channel.

Common problems and fixes

  • VLC says it cannot open the stream: paste the M3U link again without spaces at either end.
  • Buffering on sports only: run a speed test on the iMac. Below about 25 Mbps, use the HD version of the channel.
  • VLC Media Player closes on its own: clear its cache, restart the iMac, and reinstall if it keeps happening.
  • Channels but no guide: refresh the EPG in VLC Media Player's settings, or give it a few minutes after the first sign-in.
