Installing VLC Media Player

  • Download VLC Media Player from the App Store on your iPhone.
  • Use VLC's network stream option (Media > Open Network Stream on Windows, File > Open Network on a Mac, the Network tab on phones) and paste the M3U link.

The first time you open it

VLC lists the playlist in order. There is no guide and no category view, so use the search box in the playlist panel to find a channel.

  • Lock rotation to landscape so the picture doesn't flip when you shift on the couch.
  • Turn off battery saver while watching; it can throttle video playback.
  • Network caching: raise the value (in milliseconds) in the advanced preferences if streams stutter.

If VLC Media Player won't cooperate

  • VLC says it cannot open the stream: paste the M3U link again without spaces at either end.
  • Guide off by an hour or more: check the iPhone's time zone first, then the EPG offset in VLC Media Player.
  • Picture but no sound: set the iPhone's audio output to stereo or PCM; some soundbars refuse surround passthrough from IPTV feeds.
  • Buffering on sports only: run a speed test on the iPhone. Below about 25 Mbps, use the HD version of the channel.
