Setup guide
Plex on your Roku Express 4K+, step by step
Plex is the long way round to live IPTV on the Roku Express 4K+, worth it if you already run a Plex server. A computer at home runs Plex Media Server and Threadfin, a free bridge that presents your Ultra 8K IPTV playlist as a TV tuner, and the Roku Express 4K+ shows the channels under Live TV. Expect about half an hour the first time.
- No contract
- 7-day refund
- Login in ~60s

The Plex app is free, but live TV through a tuner needs a Plex Pass, paid to Plex and separate from your IPTV plan. The Roku Express 4K+ decodes 4K, so 4K feeds play at full resolution on a 4K screen. There's no contract and no card on file waiting to be charged again: plans are prepaid, with a 7-day refund window.
Before you start
- Your M3U playlist link and XMLTV guide link, for Threadfin
- A computer or NAS that stays on, for Plex Media Server and Threadfin
- A Plex account with an active Plex Pass
- A 25 Mbps line handles one 4K stream comfortably; HD needs roughly 10 Mbps per screen
Installing Plex
- Choose a plan on the pricing page and order on WhatsApp; your M3U playlist link and XMLTV guide link arrive in about 60 seconds.
- On a computer or NAS that stays on, install Plex Media Server and Threadfin, a free tuner bridge, and sign in to Plex with an account that has a Plex Pass.
- Search the Roku Channel Store for Plex and add it to the Roku Express 4K+. Sign in with the same Plex account.
- In the Threadfin dashboard, add your M3U link and XMLTV guide link, set the tuner count to the number of screens on your plan, and map the channels you want.
- In Plex Media Server, open Settings > Live TV & DVR, choose Set up Plex DVR, select Threadfin as the tuner (type its address if Plex does not find it), and match the guide.
- Open Plex on the Roku Express 4K+, choose Live TV and pick a channel from the guide.
What you'll see on first launch
Plex takes a few minutes to scan the tuner and match the guide. After that, Live TV appears in the Plex app on the Roku Express 4K+, with a guide grid by channel number.
Common problems and fixes
- Plex finds no tuner: type the Threadfin address by hand in the DVR setup, and check that the computer running it is awake.
- A channel won't tune: another stream may be using the last tuner; stop it, or raise the tuner count in Threadfin up to your plan's screens.
- Stutter on the Roku Express 4K+: check the server is direct-streaming rather than transcoding.
- No guide data: refresh the XMLTV source in Threadfin, then refresh the guide in Plex.
Settings that help on the Roku Express 4K+
- An Ethernet adapter is the biggest single upgrade for a stick on weak Wi-Fi.
- Clear the player's cache from the system app settings if the guide starts lagging.
- Close apps you are not using; sticks have limited memory.
- Tuner count: set it in Threadfin to the number of screens on your plan, so Plex never opens more streams than the login allows.
