Setup guide

Virginia Player is a paid app; its activation fee goes to the developer, separately from your IPTV plan. The Fire TV Stick Lite outputs up to 1080p, so the HD version of each channel is the one to pick; a 4K feed only spends bandwidth here. You pay once for the plan length you choose; nothing renews on its own, and you have 7 days to ask for a refund.

Prep, in four lines

  • Virginia Player's MAC address and device key, which it shows on its start screen
  • Developer options visible on the Fire TV (About > select the device name seven times)
  • Budget 10 Mbps per HD screen and 25 Mbps per 4K screen, then add headroom for everyone else online
  • A faster way to type: the Fire TV app on your phone has a keyboard

The setup, in order

  • Choose a plan on the pricing page and order on WhatsApp; your server URL, username and password arrive in about 60 seconds.
  • On the Fire TV Stick Lite, open Settings > My Fire TV > About and select the device name seven times. Developer options appears in the menu; you need it only if Virginia Player has to come through Downloader.
  • Search for Virginia Player from the Fire TV home screen. If the Amazon Appstore doesn't list it, install the free Downloader app, allow it to install unknown apps, and enter the download address published by the Virginia Player developer.
  • Open Virginia Player on the TV and write down the MAC address and device key it shows on the start screen.
  • On the Virginia Player website, enter that MAC and device key, add your playlist (M3U link or Xtream details), then restart the app on the TV.
  • Let Virginia Player download the channel list and guide (a minute or two the first time), then add your regular channels to favorites.

What you'll see on first launch

After you add the playlist online and restart Virginia Player, the TV shows your playlist name and starts loading channels. The first load on TV hardware can take a couple of minutes; after that, live TV, movies and series open from the home screen.

Common problems and fixes

  • Playlist missing after you added it online: confirm the MAC on the website matches the one on screen, then restart Virginia Player.
  • Guide off by an hour or more: check the Fire TV Stick Lite's time zone first, then the EPG offset in Virginia Player.
  • Channels but no guide: refresh the EPG in Virginia Player's settings, or give it a few minutes after the first sign-in.
  • Buffering on sports only: run a speed test on the Fire TV Stick Lite. Below about 25 Mbps, use the HD version of the channel.

Small tweaks, smoother playback

  • Use the HDMI extender that came in the box if the port is cramped; it helps Wi-Fi reception and heat.
  • An Ethernet adapter is the biggest single upgrade for a stick on weak Wi-Fi.
  • Close apps you are not using; sticks have limited memory.
  • Playlist name: give it a clear name on the website so you can tell playlists apart.
