  • Enough free space for the app and its guide data
  • Plan on about 10 Mbps for each HD stream and 25 Mbps for each 4K stream

Installing iMPlayer

  • Order on WhatsApp from the buy page. Your login details come back in the same chat, usually within a minute.
  • Open the Play Store on the Chromebook and install iMPlayer; it runs as an Android app in its own window.
  • Select Add user or Add playlist in iMPlayer, choose Xtream Codes, and fill in the three fields from your login message: server URL with its port, username, password.
  • Give the first sync a couple of minutes, then hide the groups you never use and favorite the rest.

After you sign in

Expect a short wait on first sign-in while iMPlayer downloads the playlist and guide. Then you'll see channel groups by category and country; open one, highlight a channel, and the guide shows what's on now and next.

Settings that help on the Chromebook

  • Keep VLC installed as a backup player for testing the stream.
  • Use Ethernet for 4K on a desktop or docked laptop.
  • Turn on hardware acceleration in the player settings.
  • Buffer: a medium buffer of about 2 to 3 seconds smooths short dips without adding much delay.

If iMPlayer won't cooperate

  • "Invalid credentials": retype the server URL with http:// and the port, and check capital letters; the username and password are case-sensitive.
  • Channels but no guide: refresh the EPG in iMPlayer's settings, or give it a few minutes after the first sign-in.
  • iMPlayer closes on its own: clear its cache, restart the Chromebook, and reinstall if it keeps happening.
  • Buffering on sports only: run a speed test on the Chromebook. Below about 25 Mbps, use the HD version of the channel.
